Feature Project

Our new name

On 1st December, Kall Kwik and K-Design Brighton and Crawley rebranded as Propeller.

Why the change?

“To reflect our expanded service offering,” says Derek Creasey Creative Director “we’ve grown and evolved with our clients’ needs and we felt our service had stretched well beyond these brands: so this was a great opportunity to create something new and more reflective of who we are."

“We approached the rebrand as we would a client project; starting with client and staff consultation, market research and the development of a set of brand values.”

If you’d like to know more about us,
have a look at our customer charter and brand values.

Launch materials include

The initial launch required a suite of materials including; logos and branding, stationery, internal quality control materials, signage, livery, website, HTML teaser campaign, promotional 5 colour introductory brochures with bespoke envelopes and seal stickers plus an animated Christmas E-card for the December launch.

Christmas e-card animation

In previous years we have sent out fun paper-based Christmas Cards, but this year, to coincide with the Propeller launch, we showcased a sample of our talents with an animated E-card. All illustration, animation, sound effects and the musical score were put together by our creative team. The process was entirely handcrafted from paper sketches to lip flapping oral sound effects to represent the rotating propellers.

Services

Creative

Our creative studio comprises talented designers and
artworkers who draw in additional talent as required, such as
photographers, illustrators and copywriters.

The creative leads have extensive experience working with big
brands like BAA, Esporta, Holiday Inn, Mazda, Times Media and Virgin, across all mediums and sectors. We approach a creative brief with consideration for the longer-term, whilst ensuring the project objectives are fully met.

Basic artwork is taken care of by our specialist artworkers who are positively pedantic about accuracy.

We employ a more resource-intensive approach for projects requiring deeper creative thinking, copywriting, image and media ideas. We assign people to each job based on best fit experience and expertise. Our creative director oversees all projects to ensure brand consistency and optimum quality.

Print

Our seven pillars of successful print comprise:

Best quality: We’ve invested in the highest quality litho, digital
and inkjet technology to ensure we match the print volume with
the appropriate print device. Furthermore, we operate a quality system where named team members take personal responsibility for the production, finishing and quality check of every printed job.

Consistency: All machines are calibrated using either a standard or customer-specific approved profile, to ensure consistency is maintained across all technologies.

Control: Our Production Manager oversees all print jobs, which are checked on press as standard.

On-time: Our depth of experience and disciplines in both the studio and production departments ensures we can always provide a professional, high quality, on-time solution for the type of work
being requested.

Organised: We operate Studio and Print Production Workflow Systems to ensure that planning and production is truly efficient and billing is accurate and transparent.

Responsive: As standard we operate a double day shift five days a week to ensure most volumes of work are produced in a timely and cost efficient way. However, we can turn this into a 24 hour operation with 24 hours’ notice to meet the tightest of deadlines.

Best value: As full service designers and printers, we are experienced at ensuring all jobs are planned in economically. This results in best value print pricing, each and every time.

Digital

Increasingly in demand for short-run full-colour requirements with variable data, this enables creativity, flexibility and impact, enabling customers to market their business more effectively.

The digital team makes it their business to stay ahead of the curve on new technology, so we continue to offer the best.

Litho

We produce all work on Heidelberg Presses, operating on a
shift system.

Our highly experienced press minders and finishers are able to produce a consistently high level of service. Quality and speed is our motto and our dedicated production team strives to deliver, whatever it takes, whatever the hours.

Large format, point of sale and merchandise

We use the latest hardware and software to produce high end materials quickly and consistently.

The size and impact of large format print means the imagery and finish needs to be of the highest standard, and we can be relied upon to deliver just that.

The team is always looking to identify innovative ways to
meet a brief.

Direct mail, fulfillment, warehouse
and deliveries

Fulfillment

We currently handle all forms of distribution including Direct
Mail, SOLUS Door Drop and NEWS SHARE distribution, both
locally and nationally. Once volumes are received from clients, profiled postcode areas are established with detailed penetration
rates so that we can provide accurate drop areas for SOLUS and NEWS SHARE.

This is then signed off, enabling us to deliver all materials to relevant nationwide distribution houses in time for a collective drop date.

For direct mail, we handle data sourced by clients and can also source mailing lists on their behalf. With cost-efficiency in mind, the data is checked against the Royal Mail database, allowing us to drop records that are incomplete or marked as gone away.

Warehouse

We have over 3,000 square feet of secure storage space dedicated to our clients. We hold all warehouse items ready for call-off, along
with any additional items such as letterheads, point-of-sale materials and merchandise.

We manage all stock levels. This enables us to advise clients of optimum re-stock volumes - allowing us to maximise volume spend, but minimise stock holding times.

Deliveries

We use City Link for all next day deliveries throughout the UK. This covers all warehouse call-offs, all bespoke orders and any other projects that have multiple drop sites. City Link has had the highest success rate in the industry over the past four years and because of this we are able to meet deadlines consistently.

The electronic tracking system for PODs (proof of delivery) is also one of the quickest and easiest to use. It can also be tied in with our online ordering system, so we can enter consignment details when jobs are dispatched, enabling the client to log on and track their order online.

Print Management

We’ve been using and administering online ordering systems for
the last seven years, so it’s fair to say we’re specialists.

Our web-based management system, Anteater Online, acts as a
‘one stop’ marketing resource for the central management and
control of sales and marketing activities, across as many sites as
you require.

We set up your required on-brand templates, allowing local users to tailor specific fields to their needs, and either print in the office, or place an order for higher quality and volume.

Anteater Online is not only efficient and easy to use, but it saves time and money, increases productivity, improves management information and ensures local materials are produced accurately, in accordance with brand guidelines.

Web

Whether you have an in-house web resource or want to use our development talent, we’ll consider the digital opportunities for
all design projects and share our ideas with you.

Our in-house web developer has eight years of experience, starting
out with Flash and now creating dynamic websites using content management systems. We programme in HTML & HTML 5, CSS, PHP, MySQL, Jquery, Flash and Actionscript 2/3.

What can we offer? Of course, that depends on the brief,
but we can deliver:

  • Websites
  • Content managed sites
  • eCommerce sites
  • Flash websites
  • Multiscreen websites (desktops, tablets and mobile)
  • HTML emails
  • Facebook pages & apps.
  • eBooks & digital publishing

And of course, we keep abreast of market changes so we can offer our clients to most appropriate digital execution to suit their needs.

The beauty of design and print under one roof is high quality at best
value. We regularly box above our weight on the creative front,
but our full service experience results in the economic planning of
print and production too.

Design & Print

Elizabeth Finn Care

The Challenge

Design and produce the Annual Report and Financial Statements within tight deadlines, ensuring that their unique positioning and positive impact was reflected in a distinctive design.

The Solution

We developed a key theme around ‘Acts of kindness making a world of difference’. Key statistics were highlighted using hand-drawn text and these were complemented throughout by illustration and photography to provide examples of Elizabeth Finn’s work within a context of world events.

The Results

The report was so well received, they had a shortfall in supply and we were asked to repeat the order.
As a result of this success, we were commissioned for brand development work and the enhancement of other promotional collateral across the group.

Design & Print

Crown Golf

The Challenge

To develop the brand and implement a consistent approach throughout the group.

The Solution

A new creative direction, including the identification of key messages. We created a set of corporate templates for our print management solution, Anteater, along with key pieces of promotional collateral.

The Results

68% growth in the Academy product within one year

Clubs reported that membership spends within clubs had increased across coaching and food and beverage

The annual Christmas party campaign outperformed past campaigns and sold out for the first time, with bookings confirmed four weeks earlier than previous years

Seasonal campaigns resulted in club activity increasing 15% year on year

Design & Print

The Tennis Foundation

The Challenge

Create a secondary school resource to increase participation, comprising multiple elements for use in a variety of ways, in numerous locations. A seven week timeline from concept to delivery.

The Solution

We researched the end user, environments and uses, concluding that it needed to combine simplicity with robustness.
A ‘big box’ was created with relevant content, differentiating materials for use indoors and out on court. We worked 24 hour shifts to meet the production deadline.
The creative was further developed for use across supporting materials for the associated roadshow.

The Results

41, 481 school children took part in the schools competition – up 12% on the previous year

12,515 schools participated – an uplift of 50% on the year before

97.2% of schools supported are now delivering tennis

For the next year, we developed the resource based on teacher and pupil feedback, making it more efficient and delivering a 25% cost saving

Virgin Unite

The Challenge

Created by Richard Branson, Virgin Unite is the not-for-profit foundation of the Virgin Group. As the name suggests, they are a growing community which aims to bring together ideas-driven entrepreneurs for social good.
Propeller was appointed to develop a creative approach and execution in print and online for a series of ‘connection trips’ in 2011 to Jamaica, India, and South Africa.

The Solution

We developed a series of printed and electronic pdf ‘sell-sheets’ which serve as personal invitations from Sir Richard Branson and fulfillment pieces to online requests. These were rolled out to HTML emails, web content and social media.
A big emphasis was placed on creating a Facebook profile linked to but independent from the Virgin Unite profile, with active web pages, that are easy to update and disseminate promotional materials from.

The Results

Our templates now form a standard style treatment for other Virgin Unite collateral.

Response to outbound marketing has broken previous records

Integrated

Lawn Tennis Association

The Challenge

To create and develop an online resource ordering system to sit along side the AllPlay web site. The site needed to be consistent in look and feel and also have a simple, user-friendly functionality. It had to be designed, built, tested and launched in a short timespan for a scheduled launch.

The Solution

Propeller developed the Anteater online marketing toolbox system. The system allowed users who had logged into to the Allplay system to gain access to the set of resources. The resources ranged form posters to flyers. Each resource could be personalised online to specific requirements. Order volumes were then displayed with relevant costs. The user could then select delivery addresses within their profile for the resources to be delivered to. The resource site was branded in line with the Allplay site meaning the toolbox system was linked cohesively and consistently.

The Results

812 stakeholders engaged with the site

1157 tennis matches played

7088 All Players

79,149 visitors to the site

Advanced Business Solutions

The Challenge

All our machines are calibrated using a profile specific to them, which means we can produce a wide range of work at short notice, with an unbeatable combination of a smooth process, consistent quality and high speed of production.

same day.
